Smok Alien 220W Mod Kit Review
The Alien Mod kit is creating quite a buzz everywhere, so we decided to get one ourselves and tell you what we thought about it.
What’s in the box of Smok Alien 220W Mod Kit
- The box unwraps to an Alien Kit booklet which describes the ins and outs of the product. If you are new to these types of products, the well-detailed catalogue that comes with the kit is a good place to start.
- The packaging also comes with a warranty card along a pamphlet on battery safety.
- The kit we reviewed was golden in colour. However, the Smok Alien 220W Mod Kit is available in five other colors including silver, orange, red, gun metal, blue and white.
- Also in the package is a USB charging cord which can be used to update the product.
- There is a small package containing spares and vapour banks along with the baby beast tank. Spares include a spare glass for the baby beast and a spare coil.
What makes the Smok Alien 220W stand out
The device leaves behind its predecessors measuring a mere 30mm in thickness, 44mm in length and stands at 85 mm tall. Although the design does gather a few similarities from models such as P4U iPV 6/6X or the Siegelie 213 this new flagship device from SMOK has plenty of features that make it stand out from its competitors.
- Firing Bar
The first attribute that stands out is its firing bar instead of the basic power button. The firing bar on the Alien 220 requires firm pressure to activate. This considerably reduces the chances of it accidentally firing up. For a few users this attribute takes some getting used to, but it does eliminate accidental firing.
- OLED screen
The OLED screen in the Alien 220W is larger than any other previous versions and displays a tonne of handy and useful information such as the wattage or the temperature it has been set to, the vaping effect that it has been set to (soft, normal, hard), battery level, voltage level displayed in real time, puff counter and timer, motherboard temperature along with the resistance of the atomizer and its amperage.
Some find the amount of information displayed on the screento be a little confusing on account of all the clutter, however, once you get used to the device, you tend to appreciate the quick access it affords.
Underneath the OLED display sits a micro-USB port for firmware upgrades besides a couple of adjustable button interfaces.
How Smok Alien 220W Mod performs over time
Upon using the Smok Alien kit for a few weeks or so, we didn’t really face any performance issues. Importantly, we noticed that some earlier existing firing delays are now gone.
The device performs well in wattage mode and appears highly accurate. It can also push to 220W with the adjustable buttons, although we did limit it to 90 watts due to previous usage levels. The additional power usage is really dependent on individual preferences.
The firing bar is highly efficient in terms of functionality but is stringent as well. The same goes for the adjustable buttons, too.
We also tested the short-circuit protection; the device promptly displayed a warning message on the display screen as soon as we squeezed the firing bar. Other safety features include weak battery protection, high battery voltage protection, low and high atomizer resistance protection and system overheating protection. We would definitely recommend this kit as it is truly a solid kit to own. Not only does it have great aesthetics in the dual-18650 mod category, it is also a very compact device.
